Friday Finishes

I made 5 more blocks the last three nights (10 blocks actually, since I am making 2 of each).  I now have 8 of the 12 blocks completed towards these quilts.  I will actually be able to take them to my long arm quilter and have them quilted and bound for the holidays this year!

My Sister's Quilt

When I turned 30 my sister put together a fantastic scrapbook for me that friends and family from all over the country contributed to.  Since my sister was turning 30 a short 15 months after me, I knew that I had to do something fantastic for her.  She loves bright and cheery colors and I knew that Clementine by Me and My Sister Designs was perfect for her (you can find some here).
I found a pattern and ordered fabric and got to work.  The quilt is a standard double size.  At the same time I was making her quilt, I was also making one for my husband.  My husband and my sister each knew that I was making a quilt for the other, so when I spoke about heading to my quilter, neither was any wiser.  Oh, and did I mention that I was pregnant when I started both quilts and had a 4 year old and an infant when I finally finished them up.

The fun polka dots are the backing.  I couldn't find any pictures of the quilt once it was quilted.  My quilter did a fantastic job and was able to order thread that matched perfectly.  I emailed her a link to the fabric line and she went from there.

At the time I made this quilt, it was the largest quilt that I had ever made and it definately had the most piecing ever (I think to this day it still has the most piecing of any quilt I have made).

My sister loved the quilt and it now sits on her guest bed when I come to visit. I know that it gets moved into her room when I am not there :).

Finally working on this quilt

I signed up for a block of the month club with Fatquartershop.com in 2010 while I was pregnant with N. I had high hopes of keeping up and that never happened. I really want to participate in the 2012-2013 club, but feel that I need to finish this one first. Here is one of the blocks that I finished tonight. The fabric is 12 Days of Christmas by Kate Spain (you can still find it on Etsy).

My First Quilt Ever

When K was a toddler she absolutely loved the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You Hear? by Eric Carle.  I had contemplated quilting for a long time and was in complete awe of my Aunt N's completed projects. I had made bay clothes and rag quilts in the past, but had never made a real quilt.  My aunt sent me some quilting website links and I was bitten by the quilting bug.  I looked and looked and when I found the Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You Hear? fabric (you can still find some here), I knew that this would be a great first project for a well deserving 3 year old.  I started this quilt on my trusty old Ken.more sewing machine and in the middle of the quilt, I turned 30 and my husband bought me a Jano.me (love the machine and love him!).

I took a few classes from my sewing machine dealer and learned of a new longarm quilter in the area.  I brought the finished quilt to her and she worked her magic.  I love how it turned out!

Needless to say she loved her first quilt and she too was bitten by the quilting and fabric bugs!

Miss Amanda

K has been dancing for just about 2 years now and throughout that time, Miss Amanda has been one of her teachers.  K adores Miss Amanda and when she announced that she was pregnant, I immediately got to work.  This quilt was made with scraps from an earlier quilt using the Easy as 10 quilt pattern by Me and My Sister Designs along with their fabric, Amelia (one of my all time favorites!!).  This pattern has become one of my go to patterns for a quick and easy quilt.

Sorry for the sideways quilt....blogger is being a little strange.

Quilt is Amelia fabric by Me and My Sister Designs using their Easy as 10 pattern with bamboo batting and an all over stipple quilting.  The pink stripe in the binding is another Me and My Sister Designs fabric, but I don't remember which one.
