Brain Cancer Quilt Auction

Here's a sneak peak of my flimsy for an upcoming brain cancer quilt auction.  The auction will be held at the end of March over at http://www.charlottesgraceforacure.blogspot.com.

The colors are a little off in this photo...it is freezing cold and extra windy here today...not a chance for outdoor photos :)

Sorority Life

I am a chapter advisor to an amazing chapter of Greek women.  We rally to support eachother and do what we can to help those in need.  We are a sisterhood.

I received a phone call a few weeks ago that one of my chapter members was diagnosed with cancer...her last semester of college.  Instead of enjoying her last semester she is starting the battle of her life.

Our colors are silver and bordeaux and the closest I was going to get with quilting fabric at my LQS was maroon and grey.  I bought 12 different fabrics, 6 of each color, and cut 10 inch squares to make a quick and easy quilt top.  I had just enough fabric leftover to cut binding strips.

I just picked up the backing from the chapter house.  I bought a white on white print covered in stars and left pigma pens at the house for all of our members to write a message to their sister.  The big dipper is in our crest and one of our recruitment songs says "the stars and the dipper shine down on my sisters and me."  I am planning on sandwiching and quilting Wednesday night and binding on Thursday so I can stick this in the mail.  Our member will be wrapped in love from her sisters and have a constant reminder that we are in this one together.

Better photos will be posted after the quilt is finished :)

Monday Morning Stars

I had a train ride this weekend to a leadership conference and spent some time on my stars and even more time studying for an exam that I have later this week.  I was able to finish 4 full stars and another half star, making the count 32.  Clockwise from the top left- pink: from a baby quilt I made for a friend, purple: MIL's 60th birthday quilt; puzzle pieces: baby quilt for another friend; grey: quilts that I made for my whole family in honor of my Dad's fight with glioblastoma.

Monday Morning Stars

I finished 3 full stars and another half star this past weekend on the way to my parent's house for some family photos.  My star count is up to 28 with many, many more to go.

Some people have asked about the fabrics or commented on the scrappiness of the quilt.  I am using leftover pieces from every quilt that I have made.  Once my stars are finished (no timeline), I will have a history of the quilts that I have given away.  This grouping of stars, from the top around clockwise includes: fabric from my niece's baby quilt, fabric used to make a quilt for a young woman who I advise that was just diagnosed with cancer, and fabric from the quilt I made for my MIL's 60th birthday.  The only fabric that I have actually bought for this quilt is the white.

WIP Wednesday

I am making a quilt to be auctioned over at Charlotte's Grace for a Cure.   The proceeds will benefit brain tumor research.

The quilt is going to be a twin size with Kate Spain's Honey Honey fabric line...it is going to be slightly larger, but a near twin, to the quilt I made for my daughter's third birthday.  I am piecing using grey thread for my top thread since the quilt is raising money for brain tumor research.

My Quilt is Finished

I finished 3 of 4 quilts in time for Christmas.  Since the last one was for me my deadline of Christmas was not firm.  I finished up my quilt Sunday afternoon on the drive back from my parent's house.  Now all of us have the same quilt

We all have grey ribbons on our quilts in support of my Dad and his battle with Glioblastoma.  I am happy to say that he is responding well to his chemo and had another clear scan a few weeks ago!!

Monday Morning Star Count

I haven't worked on my EPP in a long time.  I picked it up again last night while we were at a Super Bowl party.  With all the chatting, I only finished 1 full star.  I am up to 25 stars now and plan on adding to this quilt every week.
